Triskelyon - Downfall Award winner

Triskelyon
Downfall
by Allen Peters at 14 November 2022, 2:36 PM

With the help of Moribund Records, Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON have recently released their chart-topping debut album, “Downfall”. We will find out why they are inside of the top ten and on the heels of such bands as SLIPKNOT and OZZY in some of the recent polls.

Founded by Geoff Way in 2021, this is a collaboration of many artists. With guest appearances from Oberon, Hyperia, CatagoryVI, and Incidium, this unique concept has six vocalists on eight tracks! I’m not sure about how the flow is going to be with such diversity, but it should be interesting to say the least. Three bass and one on the drum machine are filling in the rest of the spots. Their goal is to keep the traditions of the eighties alive and well in the twenties with their socially conscious themes. I see on the back of the cover that the final track is a BILLY IDOL cover, “Nobody’s Business,” old school. With the intent on sounding more like TESTAMENT or OVERKILL, that is a little unexpected but noteworthy and something I’m interested in hearing. My cousin Kristy was recently in Vegas to see IDOL and the kids at the airport had no idea who that was when she was telling them why she was there. Maybe this homage will help enlighten the younger generation a little.

A SLAYER/MAIDEN vibe is my first feeling when I hear number one, “Hunger”. We are off to a good start. We step down the speed a bit with the follow up of “Find A Way”.  A little different than the previous, a larger sound makes for nice anthem with an interesting story to tell. Full speed ahead again on number three, it is quite the “Odyssey”. I like it.

I can’t write about every single track, but I feel the need to, so that’s good. Most importantly, I haven’t thought about the skip button yet. It is all worth the time that it takes to listen. They all uniquely stand alone in their flavor, especially the cover song. It is almost a ballad, reminding me of a POISON song with its guitar work. Is C.C. on here too? It is all worth checking out.
