Vanden Plas is a quite known progressive metal act from Germany, and just recently they released their 7th album, titled Beyond Daylight. Beyond Daylight, like its predecessors, is a power-progressive album, and while being technical, it remains easy to listen, with catchy guitar riffs and melodies, melodic power-like vocals, and a good rhythm section. The band, although it exists for many years, doesn't hide its influences. You'll hear a bit here reminding you of Dream Theater and a bit there reminding you of Angra (especially on the vocals) or Rough Silk. The production is very good, without being to shiny, keeping the preferred balances. The album consists of 9 songs, most of which are mid-tempo, with a few of them having outbreaks and others being slower (e.g. End Of All Days), with the best ones being Scarlet Flower Fields, Healing Tree and End Of All Days. Beyond Daylight is an album that on one hand has many good things to offer (like the aforementioned songs), but it doesn't make a breakthrough on the scene.
