Italian one man band,
VARDAN is back with his second release of this year (
“The Wood Is My Coffin” – released in January)
“Enjoy of Deep Sadness”.
Italian
VARDAN is known for his depressive take on Black Metal and despite several previous releases,
“Enjoy of Deep Sadness” shows that
VARDAN is and will continue to leave his ever-growing mark in the Black Metal scene.
Each track has a repetitive yet haunting aspect to it, well, they are all just over 11 minutes long, what else can you really do with Black Metal? Throw in some widdly doo-da’s and constant changes that fucks up with the entire mood and progression of emotion portrayed in the tracks? No, that just wouldn’t be right.
Personally, Depressive Black Metal isn’t always my cup of tea, and, despite admiring previous works of
VARDAN,
“Enjoy of Deep Sadness” hasn’t swung my direction in terms of giving the undeniably talented man a certain show of enthusiasm for this release.
Obviously if you enjoy taking in sadness, isolation and bitterness then
“Enjoy of Deep Sadness” is definitely a record you should check out, this should satisfy you pretty well, however, if you enjoy living life a bit happier and a little less serious, then, you might want to avoid
VARDAN and any other Depressive Black Metal artists - your joy might actually be sucked right out of you.
In terms of doing what Depressive Black Metal says on the tin, then, hats off to
VARDAN for pretty much filling up that tin of sadness and that feeling of darkness.
Despite not being my personal choice of something I’d listen to, it’s undoubtedly a great release to those who do take
VARDAN and DSBM as a preferred choice. Just because you don’t like a release, doesn’t mean it can’t be a great masterpiece and in its full entirety,
“Enjoy of Deep Sadness” is.
