Vastum - Patricidal Lust

Vastum
Patricidal Lust
by Marcos "The Jungle Guy" Garcia at 09 December 2013, 3:27 PM

We all know that the Swedish Death Metal way is a trademark sound that took the world by assault on the 90’s, no doubt about that, but it’s too strange to hear bands from another countries trying to bring back that sound, as the North American VASTUM tries to do with their second album, “Patricidal Lust”.

And for the sake of the Metal gods, it’s not a carbon copy of anyone, but they try to print their mark into the scene with a good work, filled with extreme low grunts, massive guitar riffs (it’s where the Swedish stamina is more clear), and good and strong bass and drums work, doing long songs (only one of them has a duration below 5 minutes). Nothing new, but good.

A sound production in good level, making their music strong and heavy all the time, but it’s a bit “out-of-date”. But it’s for the band’s purpose, as we can be sure of.

Their music is nothing new at all, just more stuff as we heard many times, and to be true with you all, in better ways. But as I said before, it’s not a loss of time to hear them, for VASTUM do not use extreme velocities, but prefers to weight very heavy, as I can hear on tracks like “Enigma of Disgust”, “3 A.M. in Agony” (with some good harsh vocals here), and “Patricidal Lust”.

A good work, indeed, but they can do better, so, let’s hope we can hear some news from them in a near future.
