Hail Metallers! This bright and sunny morning, the lyrics of Kill! Die! Devour! have permeated the stillness of the hour. Finishing up my review of VIKINGORE’s "Wolves In The Battlefront" has been quite fun to say the least. Hailing from Sevilla, Spain, the group’s debut album is a good, solid release that fans of our beloved Pagan metal will enjoy. Plenty of guttural screams, driving guitars, and unforgettable song titles to complete your listening experience. Angel’s vocals are deep, growling, and mean, but still audible enough to hear the lyrics, which are also pretty good. His speaking part before "The Undead’s Rising" was borderline demonic. Awesome to say the least. The guitars are good, solid, and keep the songs moving along, but very little solo work, or least not much that reaches through and grabs your attention. However, rhythmically they are pretty damn good.
Bass work is closely tied to the drum work, which is good, but since the drum work was good, but lackluster, it brought the bass down also. The drums just seemed, well, for a better lack of descriptive, meh. Just standard drum work through most of it until your get to "Forgotten By The Gods", then we start to hear what both Alberto and Joaquin can do. So again, the album is good, and the band has plenty of potential for the next album to be great. Some standout tracks are "The Witchery", "The Undead’s Rising", and "Red Fog". For a rating I would say 7 out of 10. Until next time, stay well, and live free my friends. Cheers!!
