Voice Of Ruin - Purge and Purify Award winner

Voice Of Ruin
Purge and Purify
by Bruno Diniz at 28 September 2017, 10:46 AM

From Switzerland the band VOICE OF RUIN arrives at their second full-length album titled "Purge And Purify". Regarding to its predecessors, we can say that there was a great evolution of the band, not that the others were bad, but this new one really is spectacular. The clean vocals, the great presence of electronic elements and some passages of Opera Metal have been abandoned to make room for a direct, technical and heavy as hell sound. The band formed in 2008 had a satisfactory rise in gracing their fans playing in more than ten countries and reaching the mark of more than 200 shows in their career.

The new work was mastered by Jens Bogren (AMON AMARTH, ARCH ENEMY) and with a cover art signed by Travis Smith (SOILWORK, OPETH).The result is a beautiful production and a perfect and clean mixing where each instrument is heard with clarity. Randy (Vocal), Nico (Guitar), Darryl (Guitar), Erwin (Bass) and Dario (Drums) forms the quintet responsible for bringing a sonority within the genres Groove / Melodic Death Metal with a lot of weight and quality, being recommended for fans of Lamb of God, and Slipknot. The album begins with the track "Disgust" which already shows all the intensity anger and energy that the band will present throughout the play in a few seconds, some tempo changes, well-made solos and a vocal beyond aggressive varying between the timbre of Death and Black metal in addition to an incessant drum and with a bass evidenced are the trace of the opening of this album.

"Horns" continues the violence saga, however with some new elements like radio effects on vocals, entrance of backing vocals and more melodic riffs. "Blood of Religions" keeps its riff base up to an astonishing entry of a very smooth and slow sound that precedes and makes a dark introduction to "Snakes In My Head" which has one of the best chorus of the album, counting on an impulsive vocal with good variation. "All Hail The King" is the climax of this work, crowning all the brutality with a track that deserves to be put on the repeat for hours and hours, although its beginning is only "very good" it shines amazingly with the inclusion of the lead guitar between and during the chorus of the chorus bringing a unique sensation of pure beauty and harmony.

The track "I Confess" starts with a slower and agonizing rhythm with some screams of pain and despair in the background and a bass voice that until then was not used, being very interesting for a greater variation within the continuity of the album even ending with the famous blast beats the track diverges quite a bit from the previous ones. "Piracy" mixes a bit of everything the band has presented during their work, having a few small passages with Speed and Black metal riffs finalizing the album brilliantly. “Purge And Purify” was a big surprise to me. The way that the whole work develops is formidable, each track fits perfectly to another, and the album do not have a single downside. In addition it is sure it will make you and bang your head during all the 40 ' while you are listening to it. Surely this work is among the best releases of Death Metal this year. Congratulations to the quintet and thank you for this gorgeous work.
