Vorhees - Chapter Two

Vorhees
Chapter Two
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 06 April 2020, 2:55 PM

The problem when trends are happening in Metal is that many bands seems to be doing the same thing at the same time, being alike others. It’s like hearing again and again the same band, only with a different cover on the album. That’s the feeling that listeners have in such time, and the French quartet VOORHEES gives this same sensation on “Chapter Two”.

Their musical work is based on an Old School traditional Death Metal paradigm. In other words, their songs sound like many bands from Florida or Europe were doing back in the second half of the 90’s. It’s not that the quartet doesn’t have talent or potential to do something excellent, but they seem to be ‘locked up’ by the genre’s clichés. They have good musical ideas, but needs to use a more of their talent to improve things, to do not be drowned into the flood of bands doing the same thing. They can, their songs shows it clearly!

They had the helping hands of Will Nosphares on the recordings and mixing, and of the Death Metal mage Dan Swanö on the mastering, and so the result is a very good sound quality that allows the listeners to understand everything that is being played, but always under a classic Death Metal outfit. They didn’t spare efforts on this part.

On the songs, the same said above: besides the band has potential to create great music in this traditional Death Metal way, they need to show that aren’t only just another name playing for fun, but that they’re serious. Songs as the catchy “The Lucky Ones Die First”, “My Horror Event” (this one shows very good guitars), “The Will to Kill” (the bitter ambiance created by guitars along with the good work from bass guitar and drums is nothing to stated), “Voorhees II” (the energy of this song can shake any dried bones that can be found), and “Into Darkness” is proof that these guys can be on the higher level of the genre, but they need to work to be different from other bands. And the frustration of this writer is that they can, I can feel it on my bones!

Guys, please, put out of your hearts what you have inside! “Chapter Two” is just the beginning, so search inside of you, and you’ll find what VOORHEES can do. I personally believe in the band.
