White Boy and the Average Rat Band - Love My Ride Award winner

White Boy and the Average Rat Band
Love My Ride
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 09 August 2019, 7:40 AM

Today, many bands that were considered dead and gone are coming back to activity after years (and maybe decades) of a deep slumber. It’s a consequence from the actual commercial success of old Rock ‘n’ Roll genres, and honestly: in some cases, it really is good to hear a veteran playing with heart than a bunch of clones emulating what they didn’t live. Then, to hear a new album from the North American trio WHITE BOY AND THE AVERAGE RAT BAND is a very good experience. And the name of it is “Love My Ride”.

Name their music as you want, because they were described as Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, Proto-Metal, Post-Punk, Hard Rock, or anything like that (these words were taken from their official Facebook page), and the listener will find something that resembles all these genres. It’s harsh, nasty and greasy, but always with very good melodies and a thunderous energy flowing from their songs. It’s amazing that “Love My Ride” is their first release after 29 years! The sound quality of the album tries to be nasty and crude, straight and organic, but without being outdated and with a moldy ambiance. No, nothing like that, because even simple and nasty, everything can be understood without great efforts. If some polishing were done beyond this point, it would bring their musical efforts down.

Full of energy and truly spontaneous, “Love My Ride” really has a strong appeal. And songs as the melodic and fierce “Love My Ride” with its nasty approach, the mid-tempo outfit used on the filthy “Mirage”, the abrasive essence of “Light Em’ Up” (fine guitars and vocals) and of “Cold Springs Hill” (some technical work can be heard on the guitar arrangements), the accessible (and crude) “put the house down” Rock ‘n’ Roll shown on “Shadow Child”, and the greasy dripping duo “Son of a Ram” and “Whiskey & Angels” are the ones that they’ll use to hammer Rock ‘n Roll into your ears and brains!

WHITE BOY AND THE AVERAGE RAT BAND really can amaze many fans with “Love My Ride”, so hear it and see what these veterans got.
