Saxon - To Hell And Back Again (DVD)

To Hell And Back Again (DVD)
by Dimitris Kontogeorgakos at 26 November 2007, 12:22 PM

I consider SAXON as the best band to watch on stage; despite their years on their shoulders, Byford's and Quinn's company continue to perform in their best every single night. Personally, I have watched the British band here in Greece for a number of times that I can not remember (it's called Alzheimer, for all the geezers) and every time they make me think that they are getting better and better. Not only SAXON do a hell of a job on stage but they do release some very good albums with a constant rate of 1 album per two years.
SAXON have already under their belts an excellent sort of biography DVD entitled The Saxon Chronicles that hit the stores four years ago; this time they return with another one that is in some way dedicated to the album Lionheart that saw the light of the day in 2004. This release comes in the form of two discs that impressively clock almost 5 hours. The first disc covers the entire story of Lionheart and that is the 'making of', the promotion and of course the on-stage performance throughout Europe. This movie is truly interesting and not just for the die-hard fans since you can follow the band's steps through the making of an album. The members of the band, talk to the camera honestly just like they do when they are on-stage (and maybe this is why they are so good in doing this) and reveal some inside details. If you get to watch the entire movie past the ending credits then you'll find Biff's metal closing statement (two thumbs up). The image and sound quality is flawless and so is the editing that creates the excellent Rockumentary atmosphere throughout the movie. Of course, you can watch the only live recordings by clicking on the The Soundtrack button.
The second disc contains five video clips comprising their last single I've Got To Rock (To Stay Alive) featuring the guest appearances of Lemmy, Andi Deris and Angry Anderson. Additionally, you get the 12 song live performance at the 'Rocksound Festival 2006' in Switzerland that comes with top notch sound and image quality. In the bonus material there are two live recorded tracks from the 'Rock For Asia' as well as a cover song on JUDAS PRIEST's You've Got Another Thing Coming with Doro joining SAXON on stage.
Well, this is another excellent treat from SAXON that have been (and will be) writing glorious chapters on the Book of Heavy Metal since the early 80s. I've rated this release 8/10 only because I gave 9/10 to the The Saxon Chronicles that I think is better.
