Warrant - Born Again (DVD)

Born Again DVD
by Grigoris Chronis at 20 May 2007, 3:34 PM

The Down Boys released a beautiful CD a year ago, remember? Jani Lane may not be in the camp anymore but his replacement, Jaime St. James (ex-BLACK AND BLUE), proved to be a more than good choice for the band; now upgrading them in a more rockin' and less poppin' direction. Yeah, I know, it's not the 80s anymore but - anyway - this review will be read by fans of (mostly) the 80s LA scene, gottcha? Now, a year after the CD release comes a DVD product entitled Born Again DVD: Delvis Video Diaries and - even if I personally liked the audio CD a lot - I'm really trying to find a proper reason (a commodity-free one) for a possible purchase of this one.
Don't get me wrong: the Born Again CD - I repeat - was a good surprise for a WARRANT release. More 'edgier' than what a WARRANT fan would expect, the album featured some hot rockin' stuff like Roller Coaster, Dirty Jack and Roxy, in a set of equally inspiring vivid tunes. The harsh voice of Jaime St. James (whoever has occupied himself with the KISS-influenced BLACK N' BLUE knows what I mean) has pushed the band into a more crash 'n' burn level, now meeting the requirements of the new era for more 'raw' songs. The DVD features all of the album's tracklist performed live onstage by the band itself (and only) as promo consuming products. The quality of the shooting is low enough, while the band is in great mood (as the 'promo' shooting requests). Anything else needed to be added? Ah, some bonus goodies include both 'recording in studio' and 'road' footage of the band touring in support of the Born Again CD, while some nice photo gallery wraps up the DVD release.
If this DVD disc was a bonus one in a deluxe Born Again CD/DVD package, then the recommendation would be high enough. But, bearing in mind the featured media and the fact that this is the first ever WARRANT DVD, I saw this visual aspect as applicable for die-hard fans only; except - only - if the DVD is sold at a rather 'smile price'.
