3Fold Pain
Don’t Trust Them
by Harry Papadopoulos at 02 November 2010, 7:11 PM

3FOLD PAIN is a new band from Athens, Greece formed just a year ago. After playing live in several cities in their homeland, they are ready to release their first EP “Don’t Trust Them”. But let’s start with the wrap, also known as layout, of this EP.

For a self financed release, I have to admit this is a professional work. A nice cover, even though I can’t understand the “explicit content” stamp, and a small booklet with the lyrics of the four songs and the lineup of the band. And I liked that, since even more famous bands sometimes are giving METAL TEMPLE just a CD without any other information. As for the music itself, well, it’s not bad. It’s just not my cup of tea. Well, to be more exact it is not going to be the favorite of any metalhead. Here we are dealing with a band that follows the trendy path of soft Rock/Metal melodies, with a pop essence and a few growling moments just for the effect. If I should mention some bands, I’d choose the light moments of DEFTONES and MUSE with a pinch of hardcore, just to gather some of the younger “Metal” fans and nu-Metal, mixed with the sound (and only the sound not they way that they are playing) of TOOL.

3FOLD PAIN’s first attempt is not bad. But it is not to be in a Metal web magazine. In my humble opinion, even with the one or two brutal moments for a few seconds in one of the four songs, “Don’t Trust Them” is too soft for the majority of metalheads. The very good production is giving extra kudos, but still it is for another kind of audience.

So how do you rate an EP that, in your opinion, doesn’t have a place in Metal circles? You just don’t.
