Requiem Eternam
Visions Of Eternity
by Dimitris Karametos at 30 November 2010, 3:11 PM

I really can’t sometimes water down a new album that I listen even if I do hear it time and again, because it dances around either very creative or true garbage. For some reason all the bands of similar genre are not enough to help me draw a simple conclusion and place it somewhere or maybe sometimes things are pretty simple and I just do not see the end of the tunnel trying to find in the album the one thing special that makes it actually worth listening to and reveal it to the readers.

This is what happens here with “Visions Of Eternity” by REQUIEM ETERNAM, a concept album based on Dante Alighieri Divine Comedy. It’s the fourth album in a line of from what I have gathered concept albums from one-man-band Phil R.XP that in a need to exteriorize his personal believes and music need created the sum of the REQUIEM ETERNAM albums, a very personal set of gothic music that is actually the clearest of gothic sounds that I have reviewed, similarities…hmm…I tried hard to think what REQUIEM ETERNAM reminded me and I thing SOL INVICTUS especially around or during “Lex Talionis”. Phil R.XP uses REQUIEM ETERNAM as a method to express his deep rooted religious belief and his understanding of gothic, Celtic and renaissance music.

Phil’s voice sounds like he is singing from a deep decrepit cave and someone is recording him from the edge of the cave, the female vocals are more clear, simple and actually well placed and a little soothing to Phil’s singing/recitation, here comes another of my questions which is, either the whole vocalization of the album is the pure genius of a true underground artist or its just utter bullshit since I really had some hard time listening to certain things he said. The sound of the musical instruments is pretty good and I liked the music though you could really understand that this is a one man band, well played though. Clearly what REQUIEM ETERNAM is not is a bad musician; just a little underground or just plain strange.

“Visions Of Eternity” is a “for fan” made album or just “for me” made album to release what is inside me, I can’t say I really liked it that much but maybe it’s just for the few to admire it or for some who would understand his perception. Try with caution and do not take my rating by heart before you listen to “Visions Of Eternity”.
