Shinedown @ Big Sandy Superstore Arena, Huntington WV, USA

SHINEDOWN/Asking Alexandria/Papa Roach
in Sunday, 24 February 2019 at Big Sandy Superstore Arena
by Tony Caudill

SHINEDOWN’s “Attention Attention” World Tour made a stop at the Big Sandy Arena in Huntington WV this past Sunday night; and to say that they drew a bit of a crowd is a complete understatement. From the moment that we walked into the arena, all we could hear was hundreds of fans excited for their favorite bands perform.

The first band to take the stage were ASKING ALEXANDRIA, coming all the way from York, England.

This hard rocking band drew a great crowd that was giving them plenty of love. While they only had a short time on stage, they made the most of it.

They ended the show with their biggest hit “Alone in a Room” to the delight of everyone there.  Throughout their time on stage the sounded amazing and put on a great show.

ASKING ALEXANDRIA Setlist:

Into the Fire
Where Did It Go
Run Free
The Death of Me
Vultures
Moving On
Eve
When the Lights Come On
Alone in a Room

As promised, SHINEDOWN took the stage at 9:15 p.m. with elevated graphics, a spectacular light show, a dazzling back drop, and most surprisingly - an explosion of flames that swept heat throughout the auditorium.

Everyone got to see the giant stage setup that SHINEDOWN had - with ramps going up and around drummer Barry Kerch’s kit, and giant video screens in the shape of exclamation points reminiscent to the album cover of their latest release, “Attention Attention!”

When the band kicked off their show with “Devil”, almost right away the pyro started and huge flames shot out from the back of the stage. You could actually feel the heat from it out in the crowd.

SHINEDOWN switched their location from the main stage to the center stage, changing their sets to slower songs and vocalizing their southern roots. Leading off with the song “Amaryllis” and ending with the cover of LYNYRD SKYNYRD’s “Simple Man”.

The band made their way back to the mainstage to continue the show; with the exciting pyro continuing and sparks showering the stage.  They ended the night with “Brilliant” from their latest album.

Overall, it’s easy to tell that SHINEDOWN knows how to put on one hell of a show.  If given the chance, I will for sure see them again.
