AMAMMOTH are a stoner, sludge, doom metal band from Sydney, Australia. They've been around since 2016 so they're still a relatively new band, with their first release coming in that same year in a demo titled "Inhale/Blackwitch" which was followed three years later by an EP titled "Blackwitch" since then there was no releases by the band until they released their debut full length studio album titled "The Fire Above" in March 2021 via Electric Valley Records.

This album is packed with six sludgy sounding, stoner doom metal tracks split up between two sides for fans to enjoy with the husky yet clean sounding vocals of Scott Fisher with his sludgy guitar tone over the melodic drumming of Scott Wilson and held down by the bass skills of Lotus Lotug.

Prior to the release of this record the band hadn't released any pre-release singles to give fans an idea of what was to come so this album is loaded with six brand new tracks as their last release was an EP titled "Blackwitch" back in 2019.

The first half of this album, Side A, consists of three tracks "Heal" "The Sun" and "Shadows". The albums opening track "Heal" caught me off guard when I first heard it as it has very little vocals going involved for the first half of the track and then all of a sudden out of nowhere I heard "Marijuana" being screamed in my ear just as I thought the track may just be an instrumental piece. This track is then followed by the albums shortest track at just over four minutes "The Sun" which followed by the albums longest track of nearly eight minutes "Shadows". The opening half of the album was quite enjoyable upon hearing it. It sounded like it was a well structured and well pieced together first section of the album.

The second side of this album, Side B, consists of three tracks "Rise" "Blade Runner" and the albums closing track "Walk Towards What Blinds You" and that final track is definitely the heaviest on the album, the others felt quite light to me but that final track with the low sludgy guitar sound, hard hitting drums and deep bass tone which I thought was a great way to end off the album leaving fans wanting more.

Having listened to this album in it's entirety I think fans of sludgy sounding records, stoner metal or doom metal will enjoy it, both sides are equally as good as the other and they're a band worth keeping an eye out for.
