Cheap Trick
In Another World
by Jojo "Rocket Queen" Hamilton at 26 April 2021, 9:31 AM

CHEAP TRICK a band who I grew up listening to & who had a lot of influence on my tastes in metal. They are a band from Rockford, Illinois & formed back in 1973. Probably best known for the song “The Flame.” This is a band who have stood the test of time & are still after 48 legendary years they have released the new album “In Another World.” The band released their debut self-titled album in 1977 and to this day still write & perform just as well. The 1979 album “Cheap Trick At Budokan” was the bands breakthrough album bringing them into the mainstream of rock music and gaining the band huge popularity & an ever growing fanbase. The new album shows the band have lost nothing over the years & as this and previous albums show, CHEAP TRICK have maintained the ability to produce new but recognisable songs. The new album “In Another World” has 13 new songs for us.

Opening the new album is the song “The Summer Looks Good On You” which opens with Robin’s crisp clean vocals & is followed by the musical accompaniment. It is a very upbeat tune. Giving off happy vibes of being on a crowded beach in the sun. Something that seems like a distant memory considering the last year or so. “Another World” is the 3rd song on the new album. This song opens with some soft drumbeats & symbols. It has a slower tempo to it. Lyrically the song reassures us we have a friend in another world who will always be there. It’s a banging song I really enjoyed the music as much as the lyrics in this one. The song makes me wonder if the possibilities spoken of in the song might actually be played out in another world or parallel dimension somewhere? “

The Party” is song number 5 on the album. It’s a highly charged song with a great rhythm & beat to it. Gets your head swinging. The short instrumental in this song is absolutely banging! The 8th song on “In Another World” is “Light Up The Fire.” It is a song that has bite! A song for reflection of actions taken. Maybe a song to a lover after a fight. A great song with a great performance. The album closes with the song “Gimme Some Truth.” It is a song that immediately sends a message – all I want is some truth. The song exploits the fakes of society. A cracking song to end a cracking album.

Overall, I have really enjoyed the album & am glad I got the chance to review the album as I grew up listening to CHEAP TRICK. The album has no let downs and as stated, the band have lost nothing over the years. It’s an easy listening album with lots of new fresh material. If you’re a fan I would highly recommend giving this album a good listen cause it’s a treat to the ears. It has been a pleasure to review this album. The album is available on all major streaming platforms such as YouTube & Spotify.
