Total Fucking Destruction - ...To Be Alive at the End of the World Award winner

Total Fucking Destruction
...To be Alive at the End of the World
by "Metal Mark" Garcia at 16 April 2020, 5:02 AM

If the reader is already introduced to BRUTAL TRUTH’s work, they for sure know that the machine gun rhythm of the band comes from the insane drumming of Rich Hoak, one of the most amazing (and fastest) drummers of the world. But no one can expect what he and Ryan Moll and Steve Morasco would show on TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION (that Rich founded after BRUTAL TRUTH’s first breakup on 1998). And maybe the fans must keep an open mind when dealing with “…To Be Alive at the End of the World”, the band latest release.

Imagine mixing a brutal form Grindcore with many other musical genres elements. Grunge Rock, Stoner Rock, Alternative Metal, Funk Metal, and many others can be traced into the experimental forge of music. And of course, a taste of humor can be heard as well. Be prepared to see discrepant contrasts, but as long as the listener becomes used to their musical work, it becomes tasty and unstoppable! Unlike many Grindcore releases with nasty (and disastrous) sound qualities that could affect the comprehension of what the band is playing, here the things are loud, aggressive, but extremely clean. And it really works fine, because the weight and aggressiveness of the band flow spontaneously, and the fine technique of the musicians can be heard.

The Progressive Rock approach of “…to Be Alive at the End of the World” (an unexpected thing from a Grindcore band, not for the trio), the violent and brutal “Light/Pain” (that shows a bone crushing work from bass guitar and drums, along with a NYHC touch), the bone-crushing approach used on “A Demonstration of Power”, the unexpected mix between Grindcore, PRIMUS and Reggae Music heard on “Sound on Sound” (very good work from guitars), the massive energy on the short “Attack of the Supervirus 1138” (an allusion for Covid-19 done before the outbreak?) and “Doctor Butcher”, and the funny version for the national anthem “The Star Spangled Banner (traditional)” are the best shots for getting used to the album’s musical content.

TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION isn’t worried about others’ opinions of their work, and “…To Be Alive at the End of the World” is a very good and funny release (although it’s not easily swallowed ate the first hearing).
